I have worked as an art facilitator with schools, art education programs, and non profit organizations in Vietnam, Canada, and the United States.
As a facilitator, I believe in cultivating a learning environment
-a diverse range of ages
-process of over product
-honoring our individual and collective creative processes
Engaging in the cycle of creativity in an open ended, safe way can lead to meaning making, symbolism, creation of community and collective culture, plus skill and social development. It is a joy for me to learn and grow in this process alongside children.
Below are some long term, in-depth projects I have explored with children, as well as camps, classes and workshops I have held in my areas of specialty:
“As we have chosen to work with children, we can say that they are the best evaluators and the most sensitive judges of the values and usefulness of creativity. This comes about because they have the privilege of not being excessively attached to their own ideas, which they construct and reinvent continuously. They are apt to explore, make discoveries, change their points of view, and fall in love with forms and meanings that transform themselves.”
